1. Plans, structures, and implements educational activities for assigned Home Based Head Start families.
2. Integrates all Head Start components into service delivery.
3. Works with families on a one-to-one basis.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops educational plans and activities to meet each individual family’s needs. Works with each family to develop weekly activity plans.
- Assists parents in developing ways of using their home in educational activities with their children.
- Works with families on a scheduled one-on-one weekly basis in their homes for at least 90 minutes, and during two monthly group socialization activities with all the families assigned.
- Plans and delivers classroom activities, integrating all components of a pre-school classroom experience, and a monthly field trip for all enrolled children and parents
- Assists families in identifying and accessing resources, fully utilizing available community resources, and making referrals, documenting service and following up as needed.
- Maintains and updates Family Profiles with each family throughout the year, maintaining confidentiality of family records and information. Keeps a record of anecdotal observations on each assigned child.
- Assists parents in developing self esteem, helping them to become the primary family educators and their children’s first teachers. Reinforces this concept with practical suggestions for its development.
- Plans and conducts one nutrition activity and one science experience at least once a month during a home visit.
- Conducts health checks during each home visit, documenting findings and following-up as needed.
- Encourages parents to become involved in the Center Parent Committee, providing guidance and leadership in the planning of and participation in the monthly parents’ meetings.
- Administers and interprets development assessment tools to assigned children, maintaining detailed, written documentation.
- Assists with the recruitment of children for the program.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds (average child’s weight).
- Understands and implements the Developmental Assets model of the SEARCH Institute.
- Participates in Center-wide events, programs and celebrations as required.
- Participates in supervision meetings and workshops within the Center and outside (if applicable).
- Participates in 40 hours of staff development training per year.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Development Associate required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Adult Education,
Psychology or related field preferred.
One (1) year previous direct service experience with low-income
families, good communication skills, ability to adapt to changing situations,
and ability to organize own work required.
Bilingual/bicultural English/Spanish preferred. Valid Driver’s License and use of a
dependable insured car required. Ability to pass a background check and if required the
Illinois Department of Children and
Family Services fingerprint and background check
